Paint It Black
There are hard truths in the Bible, difficult stories. There are congregations, and not a few, that will not sing the moving and beautiful song Rick and his band led us in last week because they do not want to hear that "the Father turns his face away". Stuart Townend was asked to change that offensive lyric, so true and so soteriologically essential, and bravely refused. The passage we come to this week is one of those many would skip over. But it is important to the story we are following as Saul disintegrates and David, on the other hand, integrates faith and action. It is, for the most part, ugly. But it is the Word of God. So it is also both true and helpful.
